Photographer Chuck Grant, and her Muse / Sister Lana Del Rey
As some of you may know from my previous posts, my younger sister is a photography student here in New York, studying at Parsons, The New School for Design, home of many our own MUUSE designers. I was sitting down with her, helping her on her never-ending thesis project, when I noticed a blog she had been looking at. I noticed Lana Del Rey, as would most people initially. I noted the intimacy of the pictures, and learned that it was the blog of fellow photography student at Parsons. Chuck Grant (Which I have to say is a pretty awesome name for a girl) is the sister of Lana Del Rey – this instantly made sense when I saw the very personal nature of the photography of Ms. Del Rey. What captured me about the photos is seeing the very real and raw sort of nature behind her photos. Celebrity (whatever) has become very commercialized, and I think that we are rarely are able to glimpse into something more deep, and to see anyone as a real person. And to this I credit the photographer, as I see this in her images not only of her sister, but of others as well.We see the styles of an older women swathed in fur, giving off a very old school NY vibe, screaming luxurious well, luxuriousness. We see Lana Del Rey in her fur hat, and even (fake I am assuming) kissing her sister (Chuck) posing as Jennifer Lawrence. An interesting, and kind of funny for some reason (in a good way) collection of photos. They scream intimate fashion, artistic integrity, youthfulness and playfulness at the same time, all the while maintaining a unique aesthetic.
